Society Members
Every member's part — taking part in decisions, supporting the mission, and keeping the committee accountable.
Purpose of the role
To uphold the foundation of DCCG as a member-based society by engaging in its governance, supporting its mission, and exercising rights and responsibilities under the constitution. Members ensure DCCG remains accountable, inclusive, and community-driven. Fulfilled well, membership provides continuity, legitimacy, and future strength for the organisation.
Why this matters
Without active and responsible members, DCCG risks losing accountability, transparency, and legitimacy. Engaged members ensure that DCCG remains connected to the community it serves, safeguarding its credibility and future resilience.
What good looks like
- Poor outcome: Members are disengaged, governance lacks accountability, and the organisation risks losing legitimacy. If this continues, DCCG’s community trust and constitutional strength decline.
- Expected outcome: Members are engaged and informed, exercising rights and responsibilities responsibly. When sustained, DCCG remains accountable, inclusive, and credible.
- Excellent outcome: Members are highly engaged, proactive, and future-focused, strengthening DCCG’s legitimacy and embedding long-term accountability and community trust.
The work of the role
Exercising governance rights
To participate in voting, elections, and decision-making as provided by the constitution. If members do not exercise their rights, governance becomes weak and unrepresentative; active participation sustains legitimacy for the future.
- Poor: Members fail to exercise rights, leaving governance unaccountable and weak.
- Expected: Members exercise rights responsibly, sustaining democratic governance and accountability.
- Excellent: Participation is proactive and future-focused, embedding legitimacy and resilience into governance.
Supporting DCCG’s mission
To align with and actively support DCCG’s objectives in community development. Without support, DCCG risks disconnection from its base; member alignment ensures continuity of mission and vision.
- Poor: Members are disengaged from the mission, weakening DCCG’s relevance.
- Expected: Members support and align with the mission, sustaining relevance and impact.
- Excellent: Members champion the mission, strengthening DCCG’s long-term vision and influence.
Maintaining accountability
To hold the committee accountable through participation in meetings, review, and feedback. Without accountability, governance risks drifting away from the community’s needs; strong accountability safeguards future trust.
- Poor: Members fail to hold the committee accountable, weakening governance integrity.
- Expected: Members provide feedback and oversight, sustaining transparency and accountability.
- Excellent: Accountability is active and constructive, embedding a legacy of trust and resilience.
Values
Society Members embody participation, accountability, and community connection. By exercising their rights and supporting DCCG’s mission, members ensure the organisation remains inclusive, legitimate, and grounded in community needs. This role reflects DCCG’s values of integrity, transparency, and stewardship. When these values are lived, DCCG is positioned for sustainable governance, enduring accountability, and long-term trust from the community it serves.
