The Uey Kai Garden

Kids' plot

The local school invited to grow alongside.

With the school

The Uey Kai Garden has a growing space set aside for children — a bed that’s theirs to plant, tend and harvest.

Learning alongside the elders

Donnellys Crossing has gardeners with decades of knowledge, and the kids’ plot is where some of it gets passed on. Children grow alongside the people who hold that knowledge, learning by doing: sowing seed, watching it come up, and picking what they’ve grown.

We plant it from a heritage children’s seed collection — fast crops that reward young gardeners quickly, and old favourites worth saving and re-sowing year after year.

The picnic returns

The annual community picnic sports day, quiet for a couple of years, comes back — hosted at the gardens, pencilled in for February. It’s mostly a day for the kids.
